Why I Take NMN Every Day (And What It’s Actually Done For Me)

If you’d asked me a couple of years ago what NMN was, I wouldn’t have had an answer. Now it’s one of the two or three supplements I genuinely wouldn’t want to be without — and after more than a year of taking it daily, I finally feel like I’ve got enough personal experience to write about it honestly, not just repeat what’s on the label.

The supplement I use is Youth & Earth NMN NAD+, 250mg, 60 capsules — a vegan, delayed-release capsule that’s third-party tested for purity.

What NMN actually is

NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a precursor to NAD+, a coenzyme every cell in your body relies on for energy production, DNA repair, and general metabolic housekeeping. The problem is that NAD+ levels decline fairly steadily as we age — by some estimates, we have roughly half the NAD+ at 50 that we had at 20. NMN supplementation is essentially an attempt to give your cells more of the raw material they need to keep NAD+ levels topped up.

What the research actually says

I think it’s worth being straight about this rather than overselling it, because the supplement industry is full of overselling.

The honest picture in 2026 is: NMN reliably raises circulating NAD+ levels in humans, that part is well established. What’s still genuinely uncertain is how much that translates into the things people actually care about — energy, cognition, muscle strength, and especially lifespan. Human trials have shown modest but real improvements in insulin sensitivity, blood lipids, and arterial stiffness in middle-aged adults, and short-term safety data looks favourable, with side effects limited mostly to mild digestive symptoms. But researchers are clear that the dramatic “reverses ageing” claims you’ll see in some marketing are based on animal studies, not human ones, and that hard evidence on human lifespan extension simply doesn’t exist yet. If you’re on blood thinners or have an existing health condition, it’s worth a quick chat with your doctor before starting, as with any new supplement.

I mention all of this because I’d rather you go in with realistic expectations than a Silicon Valley biohacker’s marketing pitch. That said — realistic expectations is not the same as “it doesn’t do anything,” and my own experience backs that up.

My experience, honestly

I’m 65, and the most noticeable change since starting NMN has been energy — both mental and physical. Not a jittery, coffee-like spike, but a steadier sense of having more in the tank throughout the day. Mentally, I feel sharper and more alert, which matters a lot when you’re producing content and running a business day to day. And I’ll say this slightly self-consciously, but it’s true: people who know me regularly comment that I look and act younger than my age. I can’t hand you a lab report proving NMN is the reason, but it’s the one addition to my routine that lines up with when I started noticing the difference.

How I take it

I take one capsule after breakfast and a second after lunch — deliberately not in the evening. NMN gives me a genuine energy lift, and taking it too late in the day risks disrupting sleep, which somewhat defeats the purpose. Splitting the dose across the morning and early afternoon has worked well for me over the past year-plus of daily use.

Should you try it?

If you’re looking for a supplement with solid mechanistic reasoning, a reasonable (if still developing) human safety record, and — in my own case — a genuinely noticeable effect on energy and mental clarity, it’s worth considering. Just go in with the understanding that you’re supplementing a biological process, not buying a guarantee, and that the long-term human data is still catching up to the hype.
